For some time, the board of the Austin Jazz Society (AJS) has had an objective to encourage more Austin youth involvement in the jazz genre.

On May 1st, the Austin Jazz Society submitted an application to the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division for a grant to provide jazz master classes along with a professional performing with five school jazz bands. It is our goal to enhance the jazz education experience of a large number of student musicians while providing an exciting listening experience for other students, friends, family members and other audience attendees.

We are happy to report that we were successful with the grant application and will be receiving $4,000 to be used for this project. The total budget for the project is $8,625 and we will need to match the grant amount with funds and in-kind contributions.

We have had success in the past when we have raised scholarship money for young students to attend summer jazz camps and hope you will consider making a tax deductible contribution to this worthy cause.

The first jazz master class / concert will be scheduled in January of 2019 and the program will run through May of 2019.

For those of us who really enjoy Jazz, we appreciate how important it is to keep Jazz alive and there is no better way than to make an investment in our youth to carry it on.
