Church on Monday
Sunday, January 8th • 3-5 PM • Chez Zee
Austin Jazz Society's Sunday Afternoon Jazz
Featuring
Austin jazz group now known as Church on Monday was originally formed by Elias Haslanger in the fall of 2011 for Elias's 5th recording as a leader. Church on Monday was the name of an original composition Elias wrote for that session, which then became the title track for his new recording. After a successful release, spending 11 weeks on the Jazz Week charts and positive reviews in publications like Downbeat and Jazz Times, Elias secured a residency at Austin's famous Continental Club Gallery. Now 9+ years later, the name of the song and the name of the recording has turned into the name of the band, and, the name of one of Austin's longest running and most beloved live music residencies.
Church on Monday is Elias Haslanger on tenor saxophone, Red Young on organ, Daniel Dufour on drums, Sam Pankey on bass and Tommy Howard on guitar. Each an accomplished artist on their respective instrument. they come together every Monday from 8:30-10pm to play one set of music to a faithful following of jazz fans.
Recipients of 5 Austin Music Awards, Church on Monday has played to crowds at ACL-Live at The Moody Theater, across the state of Texas at festivals and concerts and across Austin in clubs like The Continental Club Gallery, The Elephant Room and Parker Jazz Club. They've released 3 critically acclaimed recordings, all of which have received international airplay and positive reviews from publications across the globe.
